Two putting strokes
First I should credit LB's alignment golf putting video for starting me on this track.

I had been working on zeroing out acc 3 in my stroke, and then found that I was consistently coming up short on longer putts. And I did not have enough power in the stroke when I was putting from off the green.

That led me to think about adding back some acc 3. But the key thought was: why am I looking for 1 best putting stroke, maybe I should be looking for 2?

Since then, I have been working to define 2 putting strokes. One for holing out short putts, and one for lagging. Yes, I know that there is a gray zone between the two but, trust me, that is not such a big problem.

The key to holing short putts is to control face angle. I zero out acc 3 to have less arcing, focus on maintaining wrist angles constant, and also focus on making a smooth transition from backstroke to through stroke because an abrupt transition means that the inertia of the club head can act to bend the wrists.

The key to lagging is feel for distance. Following Tiger's comment in "How I play golf", I have found the the key to this is the right hand. That leads me to a right handed hit or push of the primary lever. I hold the club in the left hand, keep the whole primary lever in line, and push the whole lever with the right hand.

With lag putting, I am almost disregarding all aspects of the set up, I am not concerned about keeping the body still, I just stand there comfortably, hold the club in the left hand and feel the distance in the right.

With holing out, I get everything lined up square, zero out acc 3, keep the angles throughout, stay absolutely still, and putt looking at a bit of grass that I want the ball to go over.

After about 6 months of this, the two strokes are completely different.

I am sure I am just discovering something that many others have discovered before me, but the key idea is to think of putting as a search for 2 strokes: one that holes out really well, and the other that lags really well.

Anyone else on here doing something like this?

I don't have two strokes really exept that at some point for longer putts you have to give up pendulum type timing for real acceleration. A local golf pro that specialises in putting also mentionned that long putts may be played a bit more like chipping which isn't that far from your idea.
