The downswing blackout is often spoke of here, and dealt with very well ,so what happens to so many of us after we hit the ball well off the fairway to reach green etc and when we get there we (meaning ME) all of a sudden make quick and often wrong decisions on how and what to use.
Not only do we make wrong choices,we (I) after all practice thru the preceding week,do STUPID things like flip...hit chips fat...lose all memory on how hard and what clubs to actually use on different chips.
Just for the record,I actually practice using hinges...chip n run...lobs..cuts the whole nine yards.....I feel my techniques are pretty sound all TGM....I have been called by a lot of playing parteners...."a good solid chipper"..........so..why dont I agree.when I get to these chips ,I feel I lose all touch, and reason. By the way, I feel its the same scenario on all types of chipping ,,not just h/pan....Bm
I get to situations like hard pan and I feel as if Im rushing, and although I practice this shot at home course and have no fear at all with it I lose all confidence with my ability.
Hope you guys understand my query and problem, thanks in advance ...BM

Man, I'm with you . If I would take just a little more time visualizing and thinking about which hinge makes the most sense with the presenting shot I'd be a much better scorer. When I do think a bit, good things happen. When I just react my luck is usually not as good. I did actually plan a 25 yd. pitch yesterday with a vertical hing over a grass bunker and the ball ducked into the hole. That birdie was a follow up to a horizontal hinge wedge across the green for a 3rd shot on a par 5 resulting in a tap in bird. I continued to think for another 3 holes before I put it into automatic and careened to two straight bogies. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

When I isolate my vertical left wrist over the ball, I can pick the hinge. When I'm in the bunker, I align my vertical left wrist to whatever target line seems good and hinge or clubface. In both, I drive my right forearm down with a stationary head. Lynn taught me a Paul Runyan putting and chipping motion for shorter chips built on the putting motion.
You "putt your chip!" The club varies as the distance varies! AND I HAVE LOST 10 POUNDS!!!!!
