Anyone ever given their golf grips a clockwise turn so they line up correctly your shorter irons given Hooked Face, Straight away Position, Grip Rotation (7-2) ? Or do you just ignore the rib?
I could go to round grips but my grips only come in ribbed and so I ask. Ive been ignoring the rib for years but wondering about a progressive clockwise spin.
Thanks
Ob
P.S. I dont wish to Rotate my Plane Line as a fix , Im a Grip Rotater, hand manipulating Swinger , Hitter ................. and loving it.
Back in the days of being in the business I had a customer, very good amateur player, who wanted the ribs on the top so his thumbs were on either side.
Thanks Jerry G. Uh wait are you saying Im crazy too?
He was and continues to be. He is not only a nutbar, but add huge sandbagger into the mix.
C'mon O.B., just try it on one of your clubs. You might like it. It is a lot easier to get the rib consistently positioned with the rib on top. An added benefit is having the label under the shaft so you don't have to look at it. Unfortunately, I cannot think of anymore benefits of such a wacko idea.
By the way, he also had me put his putter grip on 5 cents open.
OK, Ill give it a shot JerryG and let you know. This could be big. (maybe)
But , dont ever explain Grip Rotation (7-2) to your bud , he might lose his mind with the golf grip alignments needed for the different clubs. Thats what happened to me.

For years, I used ribbed grips rotated about a quarter turn left (on all clubs). This alignment tends to open the clubface.
Why did I do this?
Because Larry Nelson, my friend and multiple-major champion, did his grips that way. He began the practice after he visited Ben Hogan in his Fort Worth, Texas, offices. In the inner sanctum, Hogan invited him to grip a driver he had standing in a corner. Larry did, and the coat-hanger rib turned the clubface wide open.
TOUR players HATE closed clubfaces.
'Nuff said.
These days I use round grips. The Flat Left Wrist and the appropriate Fix alignment of the Clubface are all I need. Best of all, I never have to deal with a rib that's out of place.
It's a good thing.
On the practice tee at Bethpage Black and the 2009 U.S. Open, the Iomic's grip guy http://iomicusa.com/ was roaming around. Fred Funk was practicing beside Brian Gay, and they exchanged views regarding the rib:
Fred: What do you use?
Brian: Round. No rib. You?
Fred: Gotta have the rib. Couldn't play without it.
Would I be correct in thinking that with a driver the rib would be correctly positioned in its traditional 6 o'clock position given the lack of hook face on that particular club. But thereafter progressively misaligned assuming Grip Rotation (7-2) and Hook Face?
