Yoda Video on Startdown Waggles with a Wrist Throw

I've always found this video to be very helpful, in fact Id say this is my favourite drill. Its what I try to feel when Swinging. The drill I use when switching from Hitting to Swinging. Sometimes even part of my pre shot Routine (3-F-5). In many ways this defines what Swinging is, well for me anyways as Swinging and Hitting are primarily differentiated by the Throw I use ....Left Wrist or Right Arm. I've been alluding to this drill lately on the board but wondering if people knew what I was talking about . It takes a lot of words to describe but seconds to demonstrate and so I asked Lynn if he would allow me to share this video with the forum . A request which he kindly agreed to.

I shot this when Yoda was up here in Toronto for a three day, private Alignment Golf Academy at Glen Abbey and Wyndance back in May of '09. Which by the way, is something that I would highly recommend to any small group of interested students or buddies. Lynn "has alignments, will travel". My apologies for my wobbly camera work but the content, I hope you will agree, is superb. Thanks to Lynn.

I particularly like Lynns depiction of the Swingers (Left) Wrist Throw, Release Trigger as seen from "down the line". A purely Perpendicular (hammering like) Left Wrist Motion (4-0, 2-P) , but down the Inclined Plane and towards the Straight Line Base LIne. This was a real eye opener for me as its right where the rubber meets the road for the Swinger, how and where he applies Thrust to the Club, although there are options of course. How he loads the "Rotated" Lag Pressure Point at the Knuckle via the "Direction of Loading" (10-11-0-3). I also really like the way Lynn shows the break down of this Stroke Pattern's components , allowing you to familiarize yourself with their individual mechanics (geometry and physics) and then to reassemble them into a new better whole. A whole with an associated Feel. Learn by Mechanics , Play by Feel. Its requires a "translation" and this is the translation of Mechanics to Feel for the Swingers Startdown on display right here. (see Programs 3-B page 46).

Although this is first and foremost a Startdown Waggle (3-F-5 ADDRESS ROUTINE ) for Swingers given the Left Wrist Throw, there's much more on display here as Lynn covers a lot of ground in a very short period of time, again! Primarily , from my perspective anyways, I also note:

-The Magic of the Right Forearm. (7-3 Strokes Basic) Right Forearm Takeaway or Pickup. The Right Arm "lifts and lowers". "One way to get it up in the air" as Lynn points out but probably the best way to get it up in the air to be frank. Better than a Left Arm lift or the Pivot trying to lift the Hands method which would require an alignment of the Pivot (Shoulders) and the Hands to the Plane Line. The Right Arm is after all uniquely, ideally situated underneath the area where the Power Package lifting happens, making its use a comparatively effortless procedure.

From 7-3 last paragraph:

Quote:

"Furthermore, in compliance with 6-B-3-0-1, Bending and Straightening the Right Elbow will RAISE AND LOWER the Left Arm and/or COCK AND UNCOCK the Left Wrist with out Bending, Flattening or Cocking the Right Wrist. Practice this first at Impact Fix. So, the Right Elbow Action either powers and/or controls all three elements of Three Dimensional Impact (6-C-0) per 1-L-9. All this you will come to know as the MAGIC OF THE RIGHT FOREARM."

- The Active Left Wrist (7-2) of the Swinger and the associated Direction of Loading towards the "Rotated" Lag Pressure Point (10-11-0-3 and see 6-H-0 IMPERATIVES especially E and F points 5 and 6).

-The On Plane , Three Dimensional Startup , Backwards, Up and In travel of the Hands (which sets up Three Dimensional Downstroke 2-C-0) along the Inclined Plane (2-F) with its Straight Line Base Line (7-5 Plane Line). The Clubshaft lies full length on the Inclined Plane (1-L-5).

-Marking time, "Right , Left , Right , Left......" (The MacDonald Drills, Exercise #5 and TGM 7-17 Foot Action) Natural, everyday human motions such as walking with co-ordinated but independent Arms/Legs motion and Pivot motion. (See Force Vectors 2-N-1 ). The establishment of the basic gyroscopic like motion of the Pivot (Body Power , 2-M-4), golf's basic rotational nature which requires a centered axis of rotation to avoid any "wobbles". (See also Golf as Three Lane Freeway Section 9-0 , 9-1 Zone 1)

-Clear the Right Hip (12-3 Section 3 #13). The Right Hip clearing an early path for the undisturbed Backwards, In and Up travel of the Right Forearm and Elbow in Startup. Dont freeze the Right Hip in Startup.

-Turned Shoulder Plane Angle at Top. (See 10-6-B , 12-2-6-B and Dual Agent, 7-13. The Right Shoulder as support and guidance of the Power Package in Startdown )

- Standard Shoulder Turn (10-13-A and 12-2-13-A). Flat back/ On Plane. The Right Shoulder turns Flat Back, or as close as is possible, to the desired Impact Plane Angle ( if it cant get all the way there it establishes a higher plane from which you may or may not shift ), then Down the Inclined Plane in Startdown.

-The ground/up , "Swinging from the Feet", Downstroke Sequence of 6-M-1. Drag Loading (10-19-C, 6-H-0).

-Startdown the "Period of (Right ) Shoulder Acceleration". The Right Shoulder moves down the Inclined Plane in Startdown taking the fully loaded Power Package , the Bent Right Arm with it. Delayed Release (see 6-C-2-A third paragraph). Longitudinal Acceleration which induces little if any Throwout of #2 ......CF will not induce Throwout of #2 if your Hands are pulling the Club straight line. No circular motion , no CF throwout.

-The Downstroke. (8- 8 ) "The Period of Hand Acceleration" as the Arms and Power Package accelerate away from the Pivot. The #4 Accumulator, the first stage of the Swingers three stage rocket fires, "Blasts off" (See 2-M-4).

-The Release . (7-24 Power Package Release and 8-9). "The Period of Clubhead Acceleration". Radial Acceleration. And of special interest to me : The Swinger's Non Auto Left Wrist Throw. (10-20-E). The On Plane uncocking of #2 with the Right Hand still lying flat against the underside of the Plane. (See 2-P The Wristcock). The Swingers Sequenced Release, #2 then #3 (although #3 is not displayed here). (See 4-D-0 Release Motions and 2-K Golfers Flail)

-How about 12-3 's "Delivery Line Prep. Delivery Line Uncocking Prep" ?

In short this is how I Swing if you add the #3 Accumulator Roll and the Golfers Flail. Hope I got the above component breakdown mainly right , that was a lot harder than I thought it would be, giving me a new appreciation for the time and effort Yoda has put into his many posts around here. Posts that inspired this effort..... be that a good thing, or not.

Cheers

Ob

Thanks Yoda, I really appreciate that.

Please provide notes or alter anything you consider injurious to the reader in the above. Or, if you are so inclined , please add your thoughts on the Pressure Points one might feel both on both the way back or down. Thats what it's all about for me, the feel and where, when and how I sense it.

Talk about the proper linguistic horizon (context)! OMGOSH what a video! I may have to have this video shown at my wake so I can remind the mourners of how to enjoy the game even from beyond!

"O.B. Wan-derful"
And to think that O.B. has only been studying TGM for two weeks .

Nice Post O.B. and video by Yoda. Study O.B.'s post well. You could start an entire golf stroke program from this one well thought out post .
