MY SWING - Need to get back to basics, overhaul required
hey fellas,

past year has been tough in all spheres of life. Alot of positives, no worrys but alot of fatigue and time off the course. Second child and mom back to work with the architect business has taken its tole on thee swing.

I've sinned and kinda lost my alignments and my TGM, style over matter, ya know? Too many moving parts for someone that plays less then accustomed to.

Video'd my swing for first time in a year, i use to video every practice session...yuk!

too much sliding off the ball, too little lag feel, overswinging everything, shoulder leaning towards target, chilly dippin lobs shots and fat chips...cant take it!

So i've deciced to rebuild....where to start oh my..i've taken out yodas alignment dvd off the shelf and removed the dust. I'll start there. i know, the hands, the hands, the hands! I need to get a simpler, more effective and repeatible pattern for me.

any wisdom on the subject is fine by me!

ok, watched the entire series of the alignment vid last night and took alot of notes and swings (sorry Lily about the divots in the front lawn, could not resist.).

a few that stand out:

VJ talking about bringing the hands to at least low-point, under left shoulder to ensure flw. never saw it that way before in reference to the body.

the magic of the right arm, the bending and fanning of the right arm as the key. just seems vague where to stop this but when yoda says to feel as though the right hand was holding an inclined wall, i like that image.

pp3 turn from top to end, the feel of it, the where, etc... interesting.

i lack structure most definately. must digest!

Key on the impact alignments first.

level right wrist, right forearm inline with the shaft from down the line

left arm/club inline face on

Take your grip in that position

Feel your balance in that position

For most folks, if you take some video from down the line, freeze impact.

Now setup with those forearm/hand alignments - use a mirror to check.

Simply put, if you setup in your impact location, it is much easier to get back there

then do some heavy club, eyes closed swings - back and through, back and through - feel your balance.

been applying the concepts of right forearm fanning relative to plane. Odd discovery about the bending and fanning of the right arm. I know the book says that bending the right arm moves the left and-or cocks the left wrist.

Even watching you guys demo, i never quite knew how to apply in my swing. You tell yourself, well, if it bends then it must automatically cock. I should say double cock for my own swing.

now WITH the fanning motion, that same pull on the shaft through the 2 middle fingers of the right hand, seems to pull everything in line going back and can really feel the left cock on plane and not double-cock.

even in a pitch stroke, this seems to feel correct.

just my thoughts...comments?
