First Playing experience as a hitter
Yesterday went out on a real golf course as a beginning to my journey to become a big bad hitter. As a outcome of a recent golf forum I attended I had a number of details to work out and for the first couple of holes there was a bit of confusion since I was trying to fix my swing plane as well as trying to hit and my brain went into overload. So I basically decided to stick to one thing which was to take the club back with the right arm and hit it hard with right shoulder , right arm, and right hand. Results started gradually improving but there were times that I just was not in position at the backswing to get to the ball (out of plane) to some times I felt when I had the tried to use the right hand it did not feel it was on the club. Trying to simplify what was happening I decided to go to a interlock grip and make sure it was tight and that the pressure of the heel of my right hand was secure on the left thumb. It was a very tight clamp. At this point everything changed. Distance increased accuracy increased and I started playing another level of golf. On the back nine I on two par 3'sI put 2 iron shots withing six foot of the pin and birdied both of them. On a dowhill par 4 I drove the ball 270 yards. Not impressive by many peoples standards but considering I average 200 yards, I am over 60 years old and I was doing this standing on one leg I will give myself a pat on the back and give credit to Yoda and Yodaluke for starting me on the right path and providing me the confidence I could do it. I found the more agressively I went after the ball the ball went farther but more amazing the straighter it went.

The major fault or difficulty I need to overcome when out on the golf course is uneven lies which represented challenges both physically and technically. I may just have to resolve to first avoid hitting to those spots and if they can not be avoided take the safest shot that will put me in place or in the worst case take a unplayable lie.

If anyone has suggestions on better ways to mechanically change setups and make some hit changes to give me a chance to approach those shots more agressivelly I would appreciate it.

Dave
