A Week In the Swamp With Yoda / April 17-23, 2011 / Part V
Saturday morning, John Riegger http://www.pgatour.com/players/00/20/02/ and I cranked it up again. He's preparing for next week's Nationwide Tour event, the South Georgia Classic, down in Valdosta, Georgia. He's swinging and thinking really well, so we're making no adjustments.
Address: Model Stance and Balance.
Backstroke: Nice and wide with no Wristcock. Extensor Action anyone?
Start Down: Pivot Lag and Power Package Load!
Finish: Beautiful body position and balance.
Wrapping up, we were joined by David Webb, an aspiring mini-tour player. David knows he has a certain 'looseness' at the Top and Finish and is determined to do something about it. I've previously urged him to change his super-strong grip to a much more neutral version, and today I brought out the big guns: a 26-year Tour veteran -- John! -- who took one look and said, basically, "Unless you change, you've got no chance".
He also told David that he had to commit to the change and concentrate on nothing else until he made the change subconcious. With that heavy duty encouragement, we all set to work for the next two hours. Thanks for the able assist, John Riegger!
Toward the end of the session, we were joined by David's father, Larry Webb (R), and Jarrod Clark, PGA, Director of Golf at Cuscowilla.
Here's the end result of our collective effort: a perfect grip . . .
And David's own natural, powerful golf swing. but with far more structure at the Top and far less Hand Manipulation through the ball.
